Thompson elected vice president of AAIDD

(May 10, 2011) James Thompson, professor of Special Education, has been elected vice president for the American Association on Intellectual and Development Disabilities (AAIDD), the oldest and largest interdisciplinary organization of professionals concerned with intellectual and related disabilities in the United States. The AAIDD was founded in 1876, and with its presence in 55 countries worldwide, AAIDD is the leader in advocating quality of life and rights for those with intellectual disabilities.

Thompson's term begins on July 1, 2011, and will run through a four-year sequence that includes a year as vice president, a year as president-elect, a year as president, and a year as past-president.

Thompson's new role is a huge achievement. AAIDD membership is comprised of an impressive group of dedicated professionals, boasting advanced degrees and extensive field experience.
