(November 19, 2009) Every year, ACEI (Association for Childhood Education International) partners with Scholastic for a book fair to raise money for the student organization.

"Proceeds help with costs to send our board members to the national conference and they also are used to help with miscellaneous items such as snacks for meetings, promotion handouts, etc.," said Dr. Alan Bates, faculty sponsor of ACEI.

The book fair, which lasted for three days, offers an outlet those looking to add new material to their curriculum, and to have a first look at books new to the market. "We sponsor a book fair so that teacher education students and current professors and teachers are able to purchase books for their classroom libraries or as gifts, especially with the holidays approaching quickly," said ACEI student leader Ashley Farrell.

Student board members coordinate all the scheduling of the book fair workers, who are members of the organization. They assist with set up and break down of the fair each day. "The Book Fair this year was a success thanks to those who volunteered their time," said Farrell.

This year, though ACEI didn't meet their goal of selling $1,800 in books in order to receive cash proceeds for the organization. However, they managed to receive $500 worth of books. "We must reach that amount to receive cash proceeds, otherwise we receive a percentage of books," said Bates.

In the past, ACEI has donated part of the book proceeds to various schools and organizations in the area.
